• Verify ALL settings, including replacement strings, before processing. Use this help system and Balloon Help to discover the meaning of the various menu items and dialog items.
• Don’t trash the original TEXT document until after verifying that A/S has done what you expected. The Browse TEXT File… menu item may be used to display the first 10-25k.
• Most buttons may be selected by typing the first letter, or command-first letter, of its title. Command-period and Esc select Cancel buttons.
• Press command-z to undo all changes made in a dialog window. This is like pressing the Cancel button, except the window doesn’t close.
• Change the Output File Creator to launch a program other than A/S when you double-click a TEXT file created by A/S. For example, changing it to “MSWD” provides launching into Microsoft Word. Be sure that the file whose File Creator is used understands TEXT files.
• Because replacements are made blindly, use a word processor to do conditional character replacement rather than A/S.
• Hold down the option key when choosing the File menu to see the Revert Settings menu item which will undo all changes made to the current settings. The Load Default Settings menu item will also be shown.
• Hold down the command key when clicking the title bar of the Process Select or Current Settings windows to show a pop-up menu that can be used to quickly save, load, revert, and print processing settings.
• Hold down the option key when clicking the title bar of the Process Select or Current Settings windows to show a pop-up menu version of the hierarchical Load Settings menu. If no Settings folder was chosen (using the Folder Preferences window), pressing the option key when clicking in the window title bar is acts the same as pressing the command key.
• Increase A/S’s preferred memory size so larger (and fewer) input file chunks are used when search strings containing CRs in the middle or search strings containing the any chars wildcard (^@) are typically used.
• Use the Edit Add/Strip application to remove the colored window resources from A/S if you don’t like the window colors. Removing the window colors will also disable frame and line bevels.
• Notify the author if you find a bug, or it may not get fixed.
